This is a good example of why English food sucks, they spend all their time making good brew, and this is one of the.
Tried this one last year, I felt it was ok, but I have certainly had better pumpkin ales and certainly ones that are less expensive
This one was a little bitter for what I was looking for, I preferred the somewhat sweeter and spicier Pumpkin Ale by Buffalo Bill brewery.
I will try this again and perhaps change my opinion.
Rather refreshing fruity aroma with slight bitter after taste. Similar to Stone IPA though I feel with less bitterness. Very good beer.
I admit it I like this one with an slice of orange, though some other Belgian whites do just fine with out one. Nice beer for the hot Texas nights and quite refreshing. Nice spicy fruity flavor with little bitterness. Aroma is somewhat lacking but not offensive.
I sometimes find my self drinking quite a few of these.
Much better than the other stuff Coors sells especially that water Coors Lite.
Use to be the only "premium" beer readily available in College Station in almost any bar. Was much preferred (by me) over Bud or certainly that bilge water Miller lite.
Though somewhat dark in color it is not heavy but is rather flavorful, avoid drinking it ice cold (as is the case with most beers other that the two others mentioned above) and you will find it quite refreshing.
APPEARANCE - brownish amber, white head that dissipates with carbonation that lingers in the glass.
SMELL - caramel, sweet, malty but not burnt.
TASTE - sweet, caramel, malty, not much aftertaste, and not bitter.
TEXTURE - carbonated, clean.
This is a good beginner beer to move someone who is done chugging beer, to someone who drinks beer and attempt to enjoy it in a different fashion.
Shiner now has some different varrieties which I prefer such as the Black Lager.
This brewery continues to surprise me, the anniversary brews that they have come up with (96,97,98,99) have all been very good. This Black Lager was the 97th anniversary brew, and has a somewhat sweet crisp flavor. It is not bitter but has a somewhat chocolate taste. Head does not linger but pours somewhat like a Guinness, while the beer remains carbonated.
I prefer Xingu, but this one is generally much cheaper and more readily available here in Houston.
Good fall or winter brew, think i will go have one!
Not quite up to the standards of the Belgian beers of which it is trying to copy (I believe this brewery is owned by Duval) it is a good American attempt at Belgium perfection. You can always revert to Chimay or Duval (probably the two most commercially available Belgian beers) but this is worth a shot. Has a typical hoppy fruitiness, but not overly bitter like some IPA's.
The end of the world? this one is not a bad choice in that scenario, not quite as refined as a Duval but it is along those lines. Generally a bit on the expensive side but with the current weakness of the Yankee dollar, not a bad substitute for the comparable Belgian Trappist beers. This is a bit fruity with a bit of citrus, not a harsh beer but probably also not for beginner boozers. If you generally choose Miller or Bud products, avoid this one. I like to drink this one along side a Maudite to mix things up. Drink too many and you may find yourself waking up in the park with no shirt and one shoe wondering where the hell your house keys are, good times!
If this is what they are serving in hell, then I guess Bonn Scott was correct when he said "Hell aint a bad place to be". Not quite as fruity as Duval, very refreshing. See you soon Bonn!
If the only requirement for a good beer was carbonation then this beer would be a winner. On the rare occasions that I have actually choked one of these down the only flavor I could discern would be the taste of stale beer. To be honest I have had water that tastes better than Miller Lite. If you’re going to drink beer, then drink beer! Do yourself a favor and ignore the marketing on this product and get something that actually tastes good. If the only reason your drinking it is because your concerned about calories then try a Amstel Light.
